Company History
ROTC began in 1993, in a small storefront in Pomona, NY, by Deborah Murphy-Fischer, an answering machine, fax machine and a computer. Gradually, clients began to come. Deborah spent time developing brochures and cover letters. She met with physicians during the winter of 1994, which if anyone remembers was one of the snowiest on record, but it afforded her the time and the physicians time to meet. Deborah volunteered to speak to interns at Nyack Hospital, contacted all the school districts Special Education Parent Teacher Associations and made presentations for them. She had told her biggest financial and emotional supporter, her husband, that "if we build it they will come."
As her caseload expanded she discontinued her association with the preschool and shortly thereafter hired a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant on a part time basis. Eventually this assistant would work full time. The office moved in 1996 to 325 W. Clarkstown Rd in New City and provided services not only in the clinic but also to a preschool, a school district, at a horse stable and a local pool.
The company has grown in size every year and today we have an administrative office manager and five therapists, three Registered Occupational Therapists and three Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Continued growth is expected.
In 2003, Deborah began to seek out an individual to assume the Directorship of ROTC as she wanted to pursue other scholarly interests. In October 2003 Pam McFall, MS OTR/L purchased the practice and moved to the present location, 15B Perlman Drive in Spring Valley. With new ownership brings new ideas and fortunately the dreams and goals of Deborah and Pam dove-tailed in the right time and place. A new chapter begins for Rockland Occupational Therapy for Children. |
