Therapeutic Listening

Therapeutic listening is the therapeutic use of electronically altered music on CD’s in combination with sensory integration techniques. The emphasis of Therapeutic Listening is on combining sound intervention strategies with vestibular-proprioceptive organization to sustain grounding and centering of the body and mind in space and time. Therapeutic Listening utilizes a variety of CD’s that vary in musical style, types of filtering and level of complexity. The use of sound and music is so closely connected to movement that children on listening programs are often compelled to move and explore their environment in new ways. Some discs impact posture and self-regulation, while others target higher levels of cognitive processing to enhance attention, communication, socialization and academic performance.

ROTC provides individual listening programs that are created to address each child’s specific needs. The choice of music and type of modulation along with listening time and an individualized activity program varies depending on the treatment goals of each child.
