Handwriting efficiency requires mastery of multiple skills including vision, memory, posture and body control as well as the task of holding a pencil and forming letters. Children who fall behind classmates may lack some of these skills.
The Handi-writer Clubs at ROTC look at and work on the following areas:
- Posture that supports the proper use of arms, hands, head and eyes
- The child’s level of physical strength and endurance
- Adequate fine motor control, which includes holding a pencil
- Visual and perceptual abilities that influence the formation of letters and shapes
During the workshops, OT’s will:
- Provide strategies to help the child improve his/her posture, strength, endurance, hand grasp, as well as speed, formation and spacing of letters
- Suggest home activities that promote the development of needed skills
- Make it fun and easy to learn!
