Handi-writer Club

Handwriting efficiency requires mastery of multiple skills including vision, memory, posture and body control as well as the task of holding a pencil and forming letters. Children who fall behind classmates may lack some of these skills.

The Handi-writer Clubs at ROTC look at and work on the following areas:

  1. Posture that supports the proper use of arms, hands, head and eyes
  2. The child’s level of physical strength and endurance
  3. Adequate fine motor control, which includes holding a pencil
  4. Visual and perceptual abilities that influence the formation of letters and shapes

During the workshops, OT’s will:

  1. Provide strategies to help the child improve his/her posture, strength, endurance, hand grasp, as well as speed, formation and spacing of letters
  2. Suggest home activities that promote the development of needed skills
  3. Make it fun and easy to learn!
