Hand Gym

Hands are the first "tool" children use to reach out and touch the world. Through play and practice, children develop the small hand muscles and learn to coordinate their movements. The Hand Gym provides a fun environment to develop and practice skill building activities that look at:

  1. Posture which supports the proper use of arms, hands, head and eyes
  2. The child’s level of physical strength and endurance
  3. Fine motor control including grasping objects
  4. The ability to move objects within the hand
  5. Coordination using both hands

During the workshops, OT’s will:

  1. Provide strategies to help the child improve his/her strength, endurance, hand grasp, cutting and manipulative skills
  2. Suggest home activities that promote the development of needed skills
  3. Make it fun & easy to learn!
